10 years of the International Screendance Network

In July 2019, as part of her position as Dance North Associate, Katrina hosted a three-day gathering celebrating 10 years of the International Screendance Network. This group of foremost artists and scholars from the UK and USA was initially brought together as the result of an Arts and Humanities research Committee funded projected initated by Katrina McPherson (then at the University of Dundee, Scotland) and Dr Claudia Kappenberg (University of Broghton). The aim of the gathering in 2019 was to enable time and space for This group of foremost artists and scholars from the UK and USA to update and share their ideas, research and practice and to take the temperature of the widening field. The symposium culminated in a public event at which the group presented films, ideas and discussions round the past, present and future of this exciting art form.

Those present at the symposium were: Ann Cooper Albright - writer and Professor and Chair of the Dance Department Oberlin College, USA; Mary Wycherley - artist and Light Moves Festival of Screendance, Limerick; Simon Ellis artists and researcher ResCen, Coventry University, outgoing editor of the International Journal of Screendance ; Douglas Rosenberg – artist, Chair of the School of Art, University of Wisconsin Madison and founding editor of the International Journal of Screendance ; Marisa Zanotti - artist, lecturer at University of Chichester, in-coming editor of International Journal of Screendance ; Kyra Norman - university of Falmouth, in-coming editor of International Journal of Screendance ; Claudia Kappenberg - founding editor of International Journal of Screendance ; Katrina McPherson - artist, scholar and teacher.
