Katrina McPherson

is one of the first generation of truly hybrid video dance artists

She has wide experience as a dancer and choreographer, and is a director of television arts programmes.  Katrina’s award-winning video-dance work is highly regarded on both a national and international level. Her video dance works include Pace (1995), Moment (2000), Sense-8 (2001), The Truth (2003) and There is a Place (2010). In 2002, Katrina was awarded the Scottish Arts Council's Creative Scotland Award to research and write a workbook on making video-dance. Katrina has also written various published journalistic articles and is much sought after as a public speaker on the subject.

Over the past 17 years, Katrina has combined making video dance with directing television programmes for the BBC, Channel 4 and ITV and teaching. She has taught extensively at university education level and community and professional workshops, leading international masterclasses in the UK, Europe, China and Australia. Katrina was a founding member of the international working group that established the international academic peer reviewed journal The Screendance Journal.

After recently leaving a job as lecturer and researcher in Media Arts at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, University of Dundee, where she was teaching on the masters course in media arts and actively developing frameworks for critical discourse in Screen-based dance through symposia and online networks, Katrina returned to making video dance and documentary.

Since 1996, much of Katrina’s work has been made in collaboration with editor/artist Simon Fildes. The co-run the production company Goat and are responsible for many single screen, installation and web-based screendance projects such as www.hyperchoreography.org and the move-me project.
